The Medicine coil
The Medicine coil was made from scraps I had left over from the 4inch coil. The weak sparks reminded me of an old electro-therapy machine I had seen once, hence the name. For an interesting and amusing look into the past when people used to think that electricity could cure all ills, check out these scans from an old advertisement for snake oil and quackery. The book is called "The Common Sense Medical Advisor" and is from around 1920. Parts of the book are missing so I don't know for sure when it was printed. I scanned all the pages that have pictures or text relating to electro-therapy, at least all the pages in the parts of the book that are left.
